Facts and Myths About Middle Eastern Belly Dance:
There are many useful website describing the much debated history of this art form. I will recommend beginning with:
"History of Oriental Dance"

What to wear to class:
Comfortable exercise clothes, preferably with a snug fit, so that I can monitor your posture and you can see and monitor your movements. We stretch and you will need pants or a skirt that allows you to open your legs wide.
Something to wrap around your hips, a scarf or sash of any kind, to create awareness of your hips as we use them in the dance.
No shoes.
