Indo-European

One of the great achievements of the Nineteenth Century was the recognition and scientific description of the historical relationship of the languages of Europe and Asia composing the Indo-European language family. This course will first outline the development of our knowledge in the field over the last two centuries, and then examine the results of that research in the areas of grammar, vocabulary and culture. The historical perspective on English and language in general opens up new ways to think about this most complicated aspect of human behavior.
