ESP programs are for students in grades 7 through 12 who want to learn! There is no test score, minimum GPA, or other qualification to participate in ESP programs; we do, however, have a strict age limit. You must be in seventh grade or above to participate in our programs. (For more on this policy, and for information on what this means if you are homeschooled, see here)
ESP students come from all over the greater Boston area (and beyond!). They are enthusiastic about ideas, excited about new opportunities, determined for their futures, and occasionally exasperated with the limitations of high school. They like to read, program, create, solve problems, ask questions, and try to understand how the universe works. (Usually not all at once.)
While we offer some programs only for high school students, many of our programs have classes for both middle and high schoolers. At all of our programs we offer students a chance to learn something (academic or otherwise) they would be unlikely to encounter in their formal schooling. By connecting college students who want to teach with middle and high school students who want to learn, we offer great opportunities for both. You'll take classes with teachers who are really excited about their topics. You'll get opportunities to ask about college, MIT, and life after high school. And, you'll get to learn something awesome that you might otherwise never know!
What program should I participate in?
I want...
- a one-time encounter to explore many academic and nonacademic topics. Splash or Spark!
- a more in-depth study of a topic, but I don't have time to do work outside of class. HSSP!
- a class that covers an academic topic in detail, or something practical that will further my educational goals. Delve or Junction!
