SAT Preparation Program

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

There is no SAT Prep during Summer 2008. The next session of SAT Prep will be Fall 2008, and would begin approximately late September. Registration will probably open early September. It is not possible to register for the course at this time. Signing up for an account at http://esp.mit.edu is strongly encouraged, as you will be notified once the program is open for registration early September 2008.

Registration for Spring 2008

Student registration is closed since we have reached our maximum enrollment. Students may view the registration pages here. Please print and fill out the medical and liability forms; bring them to the diagnostic exam on Feb. 10.

Taking the SAT soon? Let MIT students help prepare you!

Our SAT Preparation (SAT Prep) program provides instruction in test-taking strategies and in the material covered by the NEW SAT I, focusing on Math, Verbal, and Writing skills. The program holds two sessions per year, one each during the Fall and Spring semesters. Classes are taught by undergraduate and graduate MIT students.

Registration and Diagnostic

Registration for Spring 2008 will be entirely online (note that this is different from previous sessions). A link to the registration site will be available from this page once registration is open. Due to a significant increase in interest in the past, the program will be capped at 350 students this session. Registration is scheduled to open on January 28th and will run until February 7th. On February 10th, students will be expected to bring payment for the program fee ($80 in cash or check) if they have not already paid with a credit card online and their signed medical and liability forms (available for download and printing after successful registration). The fee is refundable for the first 3 weeks following Registration. At check-in, they will be assigned to a room for the administration of the diagnostic test.

If you would like to receive an email notification when Registration opens, please be sure to sign up for a student or parent ESP account.

When and where does SAT Prep take place?

Who is eligible to take SAT Prep?

SAT Prep is open to all students grades 9-12.

Diagnostic

Each session begins with a Diagnostic Exam from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm. For the Spring 2008 diagnostic, students will be assigned to small classrooms to take the exam. At check-in, students will be given their classroom assignments. (Note that this is different from previous years.) It is highly recommended that students take this exam, which will be used to place them in appropriate class levels.

Late Registration will be available if there is room in the program after Registration.

Class Schedule

Each “Class” day is broken down into 3 periods: 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm, 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm, and 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Students take one subject during each period and switch classrooms during the 15-minute breaks between periods. A typical schedule would be:

Period

1 (1:30-2:30)

2 (2:45-3:45)

Verbal

For reference, a list with each student’s schedule will also be posted outside the door of the SATPrep office, in 4-144.
