Brief Biographical Sketch:

I am from Seattle and graduated from Bellevue High School. My first teaching experience was in my junior year when I volunteered at my school's tutoring program to teach biology and calculus. Since then I realized how much I enjoy teaching.

My favorite topics to teach are biology, chemistry and math. My hobbies are swimming in the lake Washington, reading books about the brain, dancing and reading comic books

So far at MIT I have taught DELVE AP Bio, SPLASH, HSSP and this summer I am going to teach JUNCTION.

N4861: AP Biology in Delve 2011-2012 (Sep. 18, 2011)
The AP Biology course is designed to be taken by students after the successful completion of a first course in high school biology and one in high school chemistry. It aims to provide students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with the rapidly changing science of biology. The two main goals of AP Biology are to help students develop a conceptual framework for modern biology and to help students gain an appreciation of science as a process. The ongoing information explosion in biology makes these goals even more challenging. Primary emphasis in an AP Biology course should be on developing an understanding of concepts rather than on memorizing terms and technical details. Essential to this conceptual understanding are the following: a grasp of science as a process rather than as an accumulation of facts; personal experience in scientific inquiry; recognition of unifying themes that integrate the major topics of biology; and application of biological knowledge and critical thinking to environmental and social concerns. S2860: HIV/AIDS in Splash! 2009 (Nov. 21 - 22, 2009)
In this class we look at the discovery of the human immunodeficiency virus, its biology and finally the disease it is responsible for. We will then look at current drugs and treatments, and discuss the possibility of a vaccine or a cure.

S2359: Biochemistry in HSSP Spring 2009 (Mar. 14, 2009)
This class is designed for students who have a keen interest in biology and especially interested in how things work at a molecular level. In this class we will go into great detail talking about the building blocks of life. I will focus mostly on proteins, structure and function, enzymes for about 4 weeks. For the rest of the sessions we will look at DNA/RNA, replication, transcription, translation.

S1534: Virus Genetics & HIV in Splash! 2008 (Nov. 22 - 23, 2008)
This is a short introduction to viruses: their life cycles (lytic & lysogenic), mechanism of infection (acute & chronic), and their genetics (DNA & RNA). In the last half of the class I will talk about HIV, T-cells, B-cells and the AIDS epidemic.

S1535: Introduction to the Immune System in Splash! 2008 (Nov. 22 - 23, 2008)
