H10178: The World and The American Civil War in Splash 2015 (Nov. 21 - 22, 2015)
This course will discuss the far reaching effects of the American Civil War on the world at large. This includes the position of European powers on the war (why did the British not side with the Confederates?), the global economic effects of the war (where were the new sources of cotton?), and the effect of the war on foreign nationals in the States themselves (were foreigners supposed to be drafted?).

Z8754: Best Moments of Politics in Splash 2014 (Nov. 22 - 23, 2014)
Whether it's a party based solely around the consumption of alcohol actually winning seats in Poland, grandmother members of the Legislative Yuan whacking each other upside the head over budget issues, or Scotland thinking it can be independent, politics is full of zany moments. This class is a lighthearted overview of some of the best ones from the rich history of global politics. We also plan to address the role of comedy in political conduct and political criticism. In conclusion, RON PAUL 2012!!

H6330: Musket, Saber, Cannon: Napoleonic Era Warfare in Splash! 2012 (Nov. 17 - 18, 2012)
Why was Napoleon so successful? How did he dominate Europe with the French army? What were the forces at play in such battles as Austerlitz, Jena-Auerstadt, and Waterloo? This class examines the development of the French army from a collection of lackluster regiments serving Louis XVI to a seemingly invincible fighting force under Napoleon, as well as the strategy, tactics, operational methods, and willpower behind La Grande Armee and the other armies fielded by the other major powers, Austria, Prussia, Russia, and Great Britain, during the era. Topics covered will include the conduct of war, the roles of different arms, the impact of permanent army staff, and more.
