Teach Anything You Want!
We really do mean anything. At ESP’s HSSP and Splash programs, you can pick any subject you can imagine. You can teach for ESP as a volunteer or as a paid hourly teacher; during the fall, spring, or summer; for 1 hour at Splash, or 3 hours every Sunday of a year for Delve; by yourself or with the help of friends.
HSSP
ESP’s flagship program running since 1957, HSSP is an approximately 10-week program held every spring and summer. About 300-500 students from 7th through 12th grades visit MIT each week for up to 3 two-hour classes on all kinds of subjects—popular classes from the past have included Combat Math, Speaker Building, and Mission to Mars.
Splash
Splash is ESP’s largest program, and we want everyone to teach at it. Held the weekend before Thanksgiving each year since 1988, Splash brings 1,000 middle and high school students from all over the place to take classes taught by volunteers like you. As a teacher at Splash, you can teach a one-hour seminar or a run crazy all-weekend theater production. Over 100 MIT students taught total of 275 classes at Splash! 2005.
Splash on Wheels
Designed with the intent of bringing Splash to the students, Splash on Wheels is a day long event held at a nearby high school featuring the same classes offered at Splash. The pilot program of Splash on Wheels was held February 4, 2006 at Hudson High School in Hudson, MA, and attracted 30 teachers teaching 49 classes, and 200 students.
Delve
We like to give area high school students an opportunity they may not have at their home schools: to take AP classes, taught by bright college students in our program. Each Delve class matches with an Advanced Placement course: chemistry, calculus, and art history, for example. The classes, which are held on Sunday afternoons from 1:30-5:00 p.m., are each taught by 2 paid teachers on the MIT campus. If you’re experienced, and you love teaching secondary students, teaching for Delve is a great idea.
SATPrep
SATPrep is designed to help out students who can’t afford expensive SAT tutoring. We provide an intensive preparation for the SAT I in all three subjects (math, verbal, and writing) at the unusually low cost of $80. Like Delve, SAT Prep classes are held every Sunday (two separate sessions: fall and spring), and the teachers are paid by the hour.
Prove It
ESP’s newest math enrichment program, Prove It pairs a teacher up with a group of 3-4 middle schoolers with the intent of giving them a different (and more fun) look at math than they may experience in class. Prove It’s first 6 week run is scheduled for this spring.
JUNCTION
Back from retirement, JUNCTION offers a more rigorous summer program that can cover a semester’s worth of material
