P16069: K-pop and Capitalism in Splash 2025 (Mar. 15 - 16, 2025)
K-pop fans, capitalism fans, and everyone else alike are welcome in this course exploring how capitalism affects one of the world's most prominent niche industries. From the birth of modern K-pop in the 1990s to its current reach across the globe, we'll take a look at industry practices, fan customs, and how your favorite idol might just be a messenger of neoliberalism. This class will be part presentation and part discussion, with questions and comments welcome throughout.
