Brief Biographical Sketch:
Hi! My name is Claire and I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Although I'm majoring Computer Science, I believe that no matter what we end up doing for our careers, music is a gift we can keep with us our entire lives. I've studied classical music since I was 5 years old, and have won awards in numerous piano competitions on the regional, state, and international level. I also play flute, and am a four-year member of the All-State Honor Bands. I am currently part of the MIT Symphony Orchestra as a flautist. Besides performing classical music, I love making instrumental covers of popular songs, usually movie soundtracks, which I post regularly on my YouTube channel. In my free time, I enjoy reading novels, watching movies, and updating my food blog. :) Past Classes(Clicking a class title will bring you to the course's section of the corresponding course catalog)A12860: Compose Your Own Music! in Spark 2019 (Mar. 16 - 17, 2019)
Do you love music? Do you love creating things? Have you never learned musical skills, but always wanted to? Then this class is for you! You'll be learning the basics of music theory, and then you will have some time to write music on your own. If you already have music theory background, you can go straight to composing, and I'll come around to give you tips and assistance. We will be using Noteflight, an online composing software that is very user-friendly and has built-in playback so you can hear how your creation sounds right away. You do not need to bring anything, although if you want to bring your own musical instrument to try out your composition, feel free! Just make sure to keep it on you at all times.
