Z13453: Development Economics: To Equality and Beyond in Splash 2019 (Nov. 23 - 24, 2019)
If you read the news, it might seem like changes in the world are mostly doom and gloom. But if we look at broad trends in quality of living across the world, there is cause for celebration! Over the last 25 years, more than a billion people have lifted themselves out of extreme poverty. How did this happen, and what would it take to get the remaining 8 percent of people out of poverty? Development economics studies questions like this, as well as other issues related to economy and society in low-income countries. In this class, you’ll learn about how economists tackle questions like the ones above, and how you might apply them to the questions that most interest you!
