A11535: Analyzing Children's Media in Splash 2017 (Nov. 18 - 19, 2017)
We'll watch a cartoon, read some comics, listen to a stage musical, and then discuss the material as a group. Since the works are intended for children, the content will be simple but also deal with rather complicated issues. Some examples of such subjects include gender, American democracy, and schadenfreude in entertainment. Another aspect of discussion includes the presentation methods of each work and its form of media. This course is intended to be a small seminar which emphasizes student-led discussion.

S11499: History of Physics in HSSP Summer 2017 (Jul. 09, 2017)
This course is a broad overview of the history of physics starting from ancient times and ending in the 20th century. The social impact and cultural aspects of developments in physics are explored in each time period, providing a discussion which bridges humanities and physics. The course will discuss topics including ancient and medieval astronomy, the social impact of Galileo and Newton, innovation brought on by research in electricity and magnetism, and the philosophy of quantum mechanics.
