Brief Biographical Sketch:
I am originally from China, but grew up in Connecticut and Hong Kong. I graduated from Rice University in Houston, TX in May 2018 with degrees in Materials Science and NanoEngineering, and Mathematics. I am now a graduate student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. Teaching is one of my passions, because I wouldn't be where I am today were it not for all my amazing, inspiring teachers. I've done origami as a hobby for as long as I can remember, and first discovered modular origami at an international math contest when I was in high school. Past Classes(Clicking a class title will bring you to the course's section of the corresponding course catalog)X13418: Origami, Shapes, and You! in Splash 2019 (Nov. 23 - 24, 2019)
Shapes are all around us. This course will use modular origami to explore the nature of certain symmetrical 3D objects. What is modular origami? In short, you fold a bunch of basic units, then assemble it into a wonderful complex structure. Most of the class will be spent creating your own 3D origami models to keep, which you can turn into mini-lamps with provided LEDs!
