S15173: Falling into Black Holes in Splash 2022 (Nov. 19 - 20, 2022)
In this class, we explore the weirdness of falling into black holes! In the first half, we will begin by describing what it means to measure different times across reference frames through special relativity. We will then look at an intuitive way to describe the geometry of spacetimes which is needed to approach general relativity. In the second half, we will combine the information to qualitatively demonstrate what different observers "see" when an object falls into a black hole!

S14672: Anomaly in Physics: Cosmological Axis of Evil in Splash 2021 (Nov. 20 - 21, 2021)
Our Universe is a pretty strange place! There are a lot of hidden mysteries that have been observed but unexplained. In this class, we will explore one of the unsolved anomalies in cosmological physics, the axis of evil. We will begin by looking at the timeline of our Universe and some of the models that have been developed to describe observed phenomena. Alongside the scientific background, we will also discuss the rich history rooted in the discoveries. In the second part, we will begin with a discussion on the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and what it tells us about our Universe. Finally, this will lead us to the axis of evil, where we will look at the context of the anomaly and some of the proposed explanations.
