Brief Biographical Sketch:

Scott Kominers grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, and attended Walt Whitman High School. He holds a PhD in Business Economics from Harvard. In MIT language that translates as Course 14/15. He completed his undergraduate degree at Harvard in Spring 2009, studying mathematics, economics, and ethnomusicology (18/14//21M, plus or minus epsilon). QED.

Matchmakers are not just used in marriage markets any more! Hospitals use national-scale matchmakers to assign medical students to residency positions and Boston uses similar mechanisms to assign students to public schools. But why? Two-sided matching markets abound; examples include the marriage, college admissions, and employment markets. In this class, we introduce stable matching, the solution concept for these markets. We then discuss the motivation for and application of stable matching mechanisms.
