Registration and Class Placement Information for Summer HSSP 2009

Before the June 16 deadline, students registered for HSSP online.Students were asked to indicate their preference (i.e. first, second, third), for particular classes. Some classes require students to answer short questions, so we can determine if the student would be a good match for the class. If classes fill up, we will use these questions to determine which students will have places in the class. If a class without an application question fills up, the spots will be lotteried off. We tried to place students who were not placed initially as spots open up as students drop classes. Preference was given to students who were not placed in any of their first choice classes, or not placed at all. We e-mailed students who are placed after we release the initial schedules are released (June 23 at 8:00 PM)

This system allowed us to open all HSSP classes to more students. Too often, our most popular classes are filled a day or two after registration open, which prevents students who were unable to register as soon as registration opened from getting a spot.

We worked very hard to place all students in classes. Unfortunately, there were too many students registered for the slots we currently have available. Some students will not get their first choice classes, a few students will not be placed.

Students will be able to register, and choose new classes until Thursday, June 9, at midnight . After that, if students are still interested in taking classes, they should register or switch classes on site.

If this looks different than last year, that’s okay – HSSP registration procedures often vary from year to year. ESP is still experimenting with registration procedures to find a system that most effectively places students.
