S9191: Becoming a Global Citizen in HSSP Spring 2015 (Feb. 21, 2015)
This class will prepare students to better understand human diversity from a personal and interpersonal perspective. Essential skills discussed will include, skin color awareness, biology of race, understanding identity and individuality, learning appropriate language around how to be inclusive with one another, looking at differences and similarities through the lens of the many areas of human diversity, history of race in America, understanding cultural patterns vs. stereotypes, discussing fairness, peace, injustice and the term “changemakers”, in the context of Civil Rights and American history. Students will explore these many important topics utilizing conversation, books, media, art, poetry and other engaging activities.
X9060: Third Culture Kids: Why a Globally Mobile Childhood Matters in Splash 2014 (Nov. 22 - 23, 2014)
Have you been exposed to two or more cultural traditions during your childhood years? If so, this class is for you or someone you know! There is actual language for the lifestyle you've been living whether you have spent time outside your passport country or cross cultures on a daily basis just by leaving your house to go to school each day.
We will be talking about how you have been shaped by your experiences and the gifts as well as the challenges of this cross-cultural, mobile lifestyle. Lastly we will look at how you can use your experiences to launch yourselves as you go on to work and study in today's increasingly globalized world.
