Brief Biographical Sketch:
Hi! I'm Bailey and I am a geophysics student in the MIT-WHOI Joint Program working to learn more about tectonic plate boundaries in marine settings using electromagnetic techniques. I grew up in Minnesota, and majored in Earth and Planetary Sciences during my undergrad at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Outside of school, I enjoy playing soccer, spending time by the water, scuba diving, and eating ice cream. Past Classes(Clicking a class title will bring you to the course's section of the corresponding course catalog)S15710: Underwater Earthquake Science: An Intro to Performing Research on Ships as a Marine Geophysicist in Splash 2023 (Nov. 18 - 19, 2023)
Have you ever wondered what causes earthquakes? Do you want to learn more about what it is like to perform science on ships in the middle of the ocean for a job? If you are interested in learning more about the natural processes of Earth, then this is the class for you! In this course, we will cover the basics of earthquakes (with emphasis on the physical properties causing them) and how to study them in marine environments using geophysical techniques (primarily seismology and electromagnetics). We will have demonstrations and will also talk about what it is like to live and work on a research vessel. No prior Earth Science knowledge necessary.
S15652: How the Earth Moves Below the Sea: An Intro to Conducting Marine Geophysical Research in HSSP Summer 2023 (Jul. 09, 2023)
Have you ever wondered what causes earthquakes? Or what makes tectonic plates move? Do you want to learn more about what it is like to perform science on ships in the middle of the ocean? In this course, we will talk about the internal workings of the Earth and how to study them at sea! We will have demonstrations and will talk about what it's like to live and work on a research vessel. No prior Earth Science knowledge is required.
S15518: Underwater Earthquake Science: An Intro to Performing Research on Ships as a Marine Geophysicist in Spark 2023 (Mar. 18 - 19, 2023)
