X15609: How To Run A Spark in Spark 2023 (Mar. 18 - 19, 2023)
Spark is run by undergraduate and graduate students at MIT. And beyond MIT, there are other similar educational programs at universities and high schools nationwide. How does it all happen, and what are some of the things behind the scenes that you don't usually get to see? Come learn about all of the intricacies that go into running a massive program like Spark and find out how you can do it too! We'll cover what goes into organizing Spark at MIT, as well as resources and next steps if you want to run something like Spark at your own school. Presented by former Spark directors :)

W15611: Cross Stitching! in Spark 2023 (Mar. 18 - 19, 2023)

H14580: Markets and Competition in HSSP Summer 2021 (Jul. 10 - 31, 2021)
Have you wondered who sets the price of gas, or why certain brands of toothpaste are more expensive than others? In this class, we’ll dive into all the different types of markets, and how the businesses in them function differently! We will be discussing perfect competition, monopolies, as well as applications of economic principles in current events. No experience required, but we welcome everyone with an interest in economics!

M14581: Intro to Graph Theory in HSSP Summer 2021 (Jul. 10 - 31, 2021)
A graph -- not y=f(x)! -- is a structure of points, or vertices, connected in pairs by edges. They’re used in many different algorithms in math, computer science, and more. For example, Google Maps uses graphs to calculate the shortest route between two points. In this class, we will explore an introduction to graph theory and play some related games! Topics include graphs, trees, Hamilton paths, and Euler’s formula, among others.

S14607: Intro to Microbial Genomics in HSSP Summer 2021 (Jul. 10 - 31, 2021)
Microbes are everywhere. They were the first forms of life on Earth, did and continue to make the Earth habitable, and they're some of the most abundant and diverse organisms out there. There are microbes 4 miles underground and at heights taller than Mount Everest. There are microbes living at 130 degrees Celsius, or in 12.8 pH acids, or at pressures of 2000 atmospheres, or under extreme radiation. So microbes are cool, but they're also invisible to the naked eye. How do we study them? One of the most used methods is through the power of DNA and computers! But how does this analysis work? Once you've pulled a mess of DNA out of a bucket of ocean water, what do you do then?

W14499: Learn and play SET! in Spark 2021 (Mar. 13 - 27, 2021)
Come test how fast you can group cards into sets! SET is an easy-to-learn card game that will still have us staring at the card deck for hours. Learn a new skill, get in some practice, or impress us all with how fast you are!

Ever thought about what happens behind-the-scenes when you sign up for Spark classes? Or how all of our teachers and classes fit into MIT's Zoom rooms? Spark takes months to plan, and for good reason. Come learn how we make Spark happen every year!

M14284: SET (& the mathematics of) in Splash 2020 (Nov. 14 - 15, 2020)
