M15130: pRoPoSiTiOnAL LoGiC in Splash 2022 (Nov. 19 - 20, 2022)
You are at a crossroads. One path leads to free bubble tea. One path leads to an empty room with a one-way (shatter-proof) window through which you can see people drinking free bubble tea. Two judgmental talking trickster frogs are at the crossroads. One only tells the truth, and the other only tells lies. You can only ask one frog one question. Goal: Get free bubble tea with your new frog friends! Material includes propositions, truth value, logical operators, truth tables, logic puzzles, tautologies, equivalences, arguments, rules of inference, and fallacies.

X15189: Fighting for a draw in the endgame in Splash 2022 (Nov. 19 - 20, 2022)
When playing chess, do you find yourself doing well in the opening and middlegame but losing in the endgame? Learn some important ideas to improve your knowledge of endgames and avoid losing winning or drawn positions. We'll be playing through some example positions to practice! For intermediate tournament chess players, roughly 1200-1600 USCF (but don't worry if your rating is not strictly within these bounds!) Topics: - Lucena position - Philidor position - King + pawn endgames - Rook + pawn vs. rook

X15374: Making Book-ish Structures in Splash 2022 (Nov. 19 - 20, 2022)
Ya like books? We sure do! We’ll be making zines and letterlocking, along with discussing book-related topics! What other forms can a book take on? Does the medium make the message? Activities include: folding, cutting, drawing or writing (any skill level), and possibly sewing. Plus gushing about books ;)

A15376: Learn to Crochet in Splash 2022 (Nov. 19 - 20, 2022)
Beginner friendly course on how to crochet! Join us in learning the basic stitches. We'll be making mini octopus!

X15057: Making Books and Book-ish Structures in HSSP Summer 2022 (Jul. 09, 2022)
Ya like books? We sure do! We’ll be teaching the basics of bookbinding, zinemaking, letterlocking, and other book-related topics! What other forms can a book take on? How has the format of a book changed over time? Does the medium make the message? And what is a book anyways? Activities include: sewing, cutting, folding, drawing or writing (any skill level), and screaming about books ;) Class supplies will be sent in the mail, and it is strongly encouraged that students attend all sessions of the class.

M15064: Axiomatic Geometry and Proofs in HSSP Summer 2022 (Jul. 09, 2022)
A proof-based class on two-dimensional geometry. We start with a brief history of Euclid and his axioms, and explain why they don't hold up to the rigor expected in mathematics today. From there will be lectures/discussions revolving around Hilbert's axioms (in 2D), including the incidence, order, congruence, and continuity axioms. Theorems proven include the Crossbar Theorem, Pasch's Theorem, SSS, ASA, and the Saccheri-Legendre Theorem. We end with an exploration on hyperbolic geometry. Class serves as a brief overview into the rigor of higher level analysis in mathematics.

E14693: How to Build a Solar Car in Splash 2021 (Nov. 20 - 21, 2021)
MIT’s Solar Electric Vehicle Team (SEVT) is faced with a unique challenge: design, manufacture, and construct a solar-powered vehicle from scratch to compete in a long distance endurance race. By long distance, we mean about 2,000 miles! Come check out how we accomplish such a task and how a solar car works! We’ll cover topics from the construction of our carbon-fiber aeroshell to the arrangement of the 416 Li-ion cells in our battery to the machining of our custom steering system. Students from across disciplines come together to create a community of teammates and friends working to solve real-world problems with significant impacts. Apart from engineering, members learn invaluable business and project-management skills by approaching this challenge from a higher level. As a student-run team, this project is our heart and soul, and we are able to learn and grow as engineers, teammates, and people as we face new challenges in the world of solar.
