Emma Bingham

Emma's Bio:

Hello! I am a rising sophomore at MIT, planning to study physics. I have diverse interests, which include space, the environment, music, journalism, fiction, and more. Recently, I have been working on a project about a method for detecting traces of life on planets outside our solar system! And in the near future, I’ll be starting on a neuroscience project exploring one mechanism for how autism develops in children.

In my spare time, I am a news reporter for The Tech, MIT’s student newspaper, and a keyholder (which is like a librarian) at MIT Science Fiction Society. I also like cooking, playing the piano, and spending time with my floormates and friends. And possibly attempting to do all of those things at once.

I am excited to help you develop your project ideas, whether you’re a mad scientist or an aspiring author.

Do you want to measure the speed of light using your cell phone? Do you want to culture cells and extract DNA using materials you buy at the grocery store? Do you want to scientifically devise the perfect brownie recipe? Do you want to analyze local water samples in your kitchen and draw environmental conclusions? Can these things even be done? Let’s find out! I can help you develop your experiments and analyze the data in a scientific and computational way.

Do you want to write a book? Do you want to produce a magazine? Do you want to experiment with different mediums for your writing? Microblogging? Audio-recording? I can help you, whether it’s fiction, science writing, recipes, historical research, novel-length narrative rhyming poetry, or any number of things. I will help you develop, edit, and present your written work. Together we can turn your creative ideas into polished final products!
